Privacy Policy

Squats to Scroll ("we," "our," or "the app") is operated by Tully O'Leary, based in Minnesota, United States. This policy explains what data exists on your device, what leaves it (almost nothing), and your rights.

1. No Accounts, No Sign-Up

The app does not require or offer account creation. There is no username, no password, no authentication. You open the app and use it. All your data lives on your device.

Optional email. You may choose to give us your email address to receive our short how-to email series and occasional product updates ("the field guide"). This is entirely optional and skippable — the app works identically without it. If you do, your email address is stored with our email provider (Loops.so) and used only to send you those emails. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can request deletion of your email address at any time by contacting us or unsubscribing. We never sell or share your email address.

2. Camera Usage

The app uses your device camera solely for on-device pose detection to count squat repetitions. Camera processing is performed entirely on your device using machine learning models (MediaPipe Pose Detection). Specifically:

• Camera frames are processed in real-time on your device
• Frames are immediately discarded after pose analysis
• No images, video, or pose data are stored, uploaded, or transmitted
• Camera data never leaves your device
• Only the final rep count is retained locally
• Camera permission is optional — the app works with tap-to-count if you decline

3. Screen Time / App Usage Data

The app reads which apps you use and how long you use them to provide the app-blocking feature. The detailed record — your per-app usage, your minute-by-minute activity, and the raw list your phone gives us — stays on your device. A small, specific summary is sent to our analytics so we can tell whether the app is actually working. We describe exactly what that includes below, because "anonymous analytics" is too vague to mean anything.

What stays on your device, always

• Your per-app usage breakdown and any raw usage totals your phone reports
• Any door name you type yourself — if you add a custom app by name, that text never leaves your device
• Your cat's name, and anything else you write in the app

What we do send

• Which of our listed apps a block involved — for example "instagram" when a block screen appears, is cleared, or is abandoned, and which apps you have chosen to guard. This is limited to a fixed list of well-known apps we ship in the app; anything outside that list is reported only as "custom" or "other", never by name.
• Daily totals — your total guarded minutes for a day, your daily goal, your streak length, and how many squats and blocks happened. Totals only, never a timeline.
• None of this is tied to your name or email, and none of it is used for advertising.

Android (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS)

• The app uses the Android PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS permission to read your app usage totals
• The full per-app breakdown is read on-device only, to show you your screen time and to detect when a guarded app is opened
• Your configured list of guarded apps is stored locally; the summary described above is what we send

iOS (FamilyControls / Screen Time API)

• App selection tokens are opaque — we genuinely cannot see which specific apps you selected in Apple's picker, and Apple does not give us that ability
• Detailed screen time data is managed by iOS and is not accessible to us
• On iOS, the only app names we can know are the ones you tell us yourself when you name your doors

On both platforms: we do not use screen-time data for advertising, and we do not sell it or share it with data brokers. We do use the summary above as analytics — to see whether blocks lead to squats, and which apps people struggle with most — because that is how the app gets better.

4. Exercise Data

The app tracks your squat activity locally to provide features like streak tracking, daily counts, and walk equivalence calculations:

• Squat counts, streaks, and session history are stored locally on your device
• This data is never uploaded to any server
• We do not sell or share your exercise data with third parties

5. Subscription Data

Subscriptions are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status:

• We receive subscription status (active, expired, trial) and purchase dates
• We do not receive or store your payment information — Apple or Google handles all payment processing
• RevenueCat assigns an anonymous app user ID — no personal information is tied to it

6. Analytics and Advertising

We do not serve ads. We do not use third-party advertising SDKs. We do not build advertising profiles. We do not use device identifiers for advertising purposes.

We use PostHog for product analytics, under an anonymous device-generated ID. It records how the app is used — onboarding steps completed, block screens shown and cleared, squats completed, streak length, daily totals, and which of our listed apps a block involved (see Section 3). It does not identify you personally, and it does not track you across other apps or websites.

If you give us your email address, it is stored with our email provider so we can send you the emails you asked for. Your email is never attached to the analytics events above.

7. Tracking

We do not track you across other apps or websites. We do not share data with data brokers. On iOS, we do not request App Tracking Transparency permission because we do not track.

8. Children's Privacy

Squats to Scroll is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

• RevenueCat — anonymous subscription status management
• Apple / Google — App Store and Play Store transactions

We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, or social media platforms.

10. Your Rights

Regardless of where you live, you may:

• Delete all app data by uninstalling the app (all data is local)
• Revoke camera access at any time via your device settings
• Revoke screen-time / usage access at any time via your device settings
• Remove app blocking at any time

For California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, and opt out of sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. Since all data is stored locally on your device, uninstalling the app deletes everything.

For EU/EEA residents (GDPR): Our legal basis for processing data is your consent (camera access) and legitimate interest (app functionality). Since no personal data leaves your device, there is no server-side data to access, correct, delete, or port. To exercise any rights, contact us at the email below.

11. Data Retention

All data is stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the app deletes everything. There is no server-side data to retain or delete.

12. Data Security

Your data lives on your device, protected by your device's own security (lock screen, encryption). Since we do not transmit or store your data on servers, there is no server to breach.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. The "Effective Date" at the top will be updated accordingly.
